In some Chapter 7 cases, you received your discharge but the case remains open. What does that mean?
It usually means the trustee in your matter is busy gathering and selling assets to pay your creditors. Once the assets are sold, the trustee will file a report with the court proposing to pay certain portion of certain debts. Once approved, your case will close.
In some cases, the trustee will file an asset undetermined report. This means the trustee is looking into whether there will be things to sell to pay your creditors. If the trustee finds anything, the case will continue. If the trustee determines there are no assets, the case will close and your bankruptcy is complete.
