My name is Jacob D. Braunstein, but my clients call me Jake. I came from working class Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania attending Miami University of Ohio where I received dual undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Political Science. I then took the Oregon Trail west where I graduated from the Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon.
During law school I initially concentrated on criminal law and procedure, spending part of my time clerking for both the Washington County District Attorney’s Office and the Oregon Department of Justice. I began my legal career in 2006 as an attorney for a prominent criminal defense firm in Portland, Oregon specializing in serious criminal charges such as Aggravated Murder, Robbery and Assault and less serious charges like as Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants and Reckless Driving.
I came out of the gate swinging and won my first jury trial, successfully defending a client who was facing a DUII charge after providing a breath test of .16 BAC. Since that time, I’ve represented hundreds of clients in criminal cases focusing my criminal defense representation in the greater Portland metro area of Multnomah, Clackamas, Washington, Yamhill, Columbia, Hood River, and Clatsop, as well as in the federal District Court. Jacob is well-respected by the Judges he appears before.
I recognized early on in my career the parallel of my clients being oppressed by the government in criminal proceedings and being oppressed by debt collectors in civil proceedings. I became involved in debt restructuring through Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy proceeding and I am proud to be one of Oregon’s premier Chapter 13 and Chapter 7 bankruptcy attorneys. I regularly handle cases in all areas of the Firm’s consumer debtor bankruptcy practice and civil litigation working group.
I recognize facing a criminal charge is one of the most stressful, anxiety filled, difficult, and plain scary experiences in my client’s life. I strive to provide my clients with a professional and aggressive defense no matter the situation. During your initial consultation, I evaluate your case, clarify what you can expect, what must be done, and what the costs are for the defense. Over the last 13 years, I’ve helped a wide variety of clients resolve their cases by avoiding jail time, getting reduced charges, eliminating debts, and winning at trial. I fight hard for my clients’ rights every day, leaving no option or defense left unexplored.
If you or someone you know has been arrested or accused of committing a criminal act, call me at this office immediately. Even if you don’t ultimately become a client, I am always willing to take the time to answer your questions and provide you with practical, seasoned advice.
